Oh, crap on a cracker.

Not only is this totally unnecessary (I guess they never thought of "Ester the Elephant isn't very hungry"), but it should be "FEWER peanuts."

There's been some interesting discussion on this topic at the fat girl blog that you might want to check out. Personally, I'm not sure that I buy the whole fat acceptance thing.... I agree that having a positive self-concept, regardless of your pants size, is vital... and I agree that "sizeism" is a very real, fascinating and terribly discouraging form of discrimination. However, I don't subscribe to the idea that fat may actually not be all that unhealthy. It's an interesting topic, though... and one that is certainly worthy of further discussion.

Cheers.

Thanks for sharing that - it was a very good but sad story. I'm sorry your affair with Jenny didn't go well, but you know what? It just means that you can do this on your own, or another program. You CAN and WILL do this - with your own program and however you choose to do it :)

Brave brave brave girl! I'm SO proud of you for posting these.

They may be hard for you to look at or embarassing to post, but they are a starting point in your goals and hopefully you'll look at them in a month and see a lot of changes and post the new you each time you're ready. If that's what you really want, you will. You can do it!

I had a wild fling with Jenny too! Only my affair was a good thing.

I was only on it for eight weeks (last August) and I lost 16 pounds. I gained four back over the next few months and I've completely maintained the twelve pound overall loss since then. I know why I haven't been able to lose any more too... it's because even though Jenny taught me to eat way less than I always had... I went right back to eating too much again when I went off her portions. Plain and simple. I eat the healthiest food of anybody I know...and yet I still don't lose any weight. I think I don't gain any because what I do eat is uber healthy, but again, I don't lose either because I eat too much.

We don't really need Jenny Craig, or Weight Watchers or LA weightloss... we need self control, committment and will power. All free. Just so damn hard to get, have and keep.

I've been looking through your blog and I have to say that a) you are insanely brave to post what must be the most honest body pictures I've ever seen online b) I completely agree with your decision to skip the patented-prepacked "diet" programs that so many people swear to, and c) I share your "guilt" over the whole body acceptance thing. I too am on my own quest to lose weight (more than you need to) and my assertions have been challenged by some people who have thumbed their noses at the notion that losing weight equals a more healthy lifestyle. I don't have any answers, but I admire your courage and your determination. Weight loss is a difficult mountain to traverse... and I wish you a great deal of luck as you head towards the summit.

Cheers!

I just lost 20 pounds on weight watchers. Some of us at the office signed up for a 17-week package during work. It helped that we sort of watched each other. I'd done WW many years ago and lost 10 pounds. The thing I like most about WW is that while they offer their own pre=packaged fod, they show you how to fix meals using real food, so you aren't dependent on having to buy pre-made meals.

Weight loss is tough - however you do it. Maintaining is even harder. My program ended this week, so it will be interesting to see how I maintain. Now that the holidays are over, I'm hoping it will be a bit easier to "stay the course". I'm not sure if they are going to continue the program at the office or not. Our leader was not that great - even tho she lost TONS of weight and has managed to keep it off for about 7 years now. We had only a couple sessions that I found valuable. I think the best thing I took away from the sessions is that if you go off plan, don't beat yourself up - just start up again. Easier said than done, sometimes. . . . .

So hang in - I'm off to fix a WW dinner from one of their recipe books - Scallops, Orange and Asparagus stir fry.
Hopefully it will be as good as it sounds!
